A shōji is a door, room divider or window and originated from traditional Japanese architecture. It's constituant components are translucent paper mounted inside a lattice of wood or bamboo and held together by a wooden frame. Washi is the traditional paper used but nowadays a shōji may be made of paper produced by modern manufacturing methods. They are widely used in traditional and modern Japanese houses and quite often seen in Western homes.
